Subject: JUMPED! Awesome!

Just done jump 64. I was on a load with two tandems (both with camera). I was going out first. I was very nervous getting into my rig and even more nervous going up in the plane. We were jumping from 12,000ft. As soon as the red light went on I couldn't wait to jump. When the green light came on I opened the door and sat on the edge of the step. All the nerves and fear went away and it seemed so comfortable. I did a dive exit, rolling over a couple of times before getting stable. I did handle checks a few times to make sure I knew where everything was and then just maintained a heading.

As soon as I was out in the air it felt like I was home. I was aware of where I was and I could look around and take it all in. I was able to keep a good awareness of my altitude and it all felt really good. My arch wasn't very good but I was very stable and I was able to turn and maintain a heading with no problems.

I was worried that my arm (which still isn't 100%) would be very painful during the dive but it wasn't. I could feel it but it was just sore as opposed to any sharp pain. I tracked for about five seconds and then pulled at 4,000ft. The canopy opened! It's been packed for over three months and I had a moment's worry about the lines getting jammed or something but it was a nice smooth opening. I knew exactly where I was and headed to where I needed to get to. I did some spirals and my arm felt fine. I landed pretty much in the middle of the PLA but had to sit down as I got the flare a bit wrong but considerring it's been over three months since I jumped I'm more than happy and it was a nice soft landing. My arm is a little bit sore but nothing to worry about - it just feels like I've been working out a bit.

It's awesome to be back jumping and it's just reinforced in my mind that this is what I want to do. A big "Thank you" to all the guys at NZONE, Rotorua who, once again, have made me so welcome and helped me to get back into the air again.

Cheers, Ian.
